PATIENT ACCESS REPRESENTATIVE I
Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Admitting Department

Hilo Benioff Medical Center's Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and their families. Patient Access Representatives work in different environments, including bedside registration in the emergency department, the Admitting office and hospital switchboard. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this fast-paced environment. Team members contribute to our success in a variety of ways, including:

Delivering high-quality customer service and compassion while obtaining demographic and financial data from patients seeking medical services.
Obtaining and verifying various insurances.
Using various office equipment and computer programs.
Demonstrating effective, clear verbal and written communication skills.
Maintaining patient, hospital census and bed control records.
Answering calls at the hospital switchboard and performing patient safety code announcements.

Required Qualifications:

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hr workweek.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Candidates who do not meet the requirements for experience are eligible for casual hire (non-benefited) Patient Access Representative I positions.

General Experience: 2 years of general experience required (Education substitution for General Experience: Bachelors or Associates degree)

Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Medical Examination Requirement

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Pre-Employment Assessments for External Candidates

As part of the recruiting process for this position, external applicants (job applicants NOT employed by HHSC’s East Hawaii Region) are required to complete pre-employment assessments shortly after application submission. If you are not an employee of the East Hawaii Region of HHSC, you will receive an email containing assessment instructions. We ask that you complete the assessments within two days of receipt of the request.
