The Home Affairs office in the Australian Embassy, Washington plays a critical role in achieving the Department’s broader strategic goals. Its primary functions are to process Australian permanent migration, visitor, and temporary residence visas for clients across the Americas.

About the position
This is a locally engaged staff position at an overseas Australian Diplomatic Mission.
The Executive Assistant works closely with the Minister Counsellor for Home Affairs/Regional Director Americas to provide specialist and administrative support. The position is located in Washington, which is the regional headquarters of the Department’s presence in the Americas, spanning four posts in Brasilia, Ottawa, Santiago and Washington. The Executive Assistant works under general direction of the Minister Counsellor/Regional Director and plays a vital role in optimizing their time and workflow across the region.

This position is a designated security assessed position.
Applicants must be a citizen of Australia, Britain, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America to apply. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT recognised security clearance. Security clearances can take several months to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate clearance is confirmed. There is no guarantee that the successful candidate for the position will be successful in obtaining a clearance. The inability to obtain a clearance prevents that applicant from being employed and loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
