Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in vehicle maintenance, mechanical knowledge, and a strong work ethic.

- Inspection and Diagnosis:
- Perform detailed inspections of semi-trucks to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to accurately diagnose problems with diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, fuel systems, turbochargers, exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
- Ensure all repairs comply with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems and develop effective repair strategies.
- Test repaired trucks to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely.
- Cost Analysis:
- Compare the costs of different methods and means of a repair before reaching a decision on how to solve the problem.
- Provide cost estimates for repairs and obtain approval before proceeding.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed.
- Report any major issues or safety concerns to supervisors or fleet managers.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Parts and Inventory Management:
- Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Keep track of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Emergency Repairs:
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide roadside assistance when necessary.
- Work efficiently to minimize downtime and get trucks back in service quickly.
- Training and Development:
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and repair techniques.
- Attend training sessions and workshops as required.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other mechanics, technicians, and shop personnel to ensure efficient operations.
- Assist in training junior technicians and apprentices.
Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience (at minimum) in diesel engine repair and maintenance, specifically for semi-trucks.
- Experience specializing in hydraulic systems strongly preferred.
- Technology Skills: Familiarity with computer-based diagnostic tools and software strongly preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Mechanical Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems. Strong understanding of diesel technology, including fuel systems, turbochargers, exhaust systems, and cooling systems. Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues in commercial trailers is strongly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of trailer systems, including brakes, axles, electrical systems, suspension, and hydraulics.
- Diagnostic Abilities: Ability to use diagnostic tools and software to identify problems.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, effective communication skills, and ability to maintain accurate records. Precision in performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure safety and compliance.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to troubleshoot and develop effective repair solutions.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid Driver’s License (Class C): Required to perform off-site repairs.
- CDL: Preferred, as it may be necessary for moving large trailers.
- ASE Certification: Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in Medium-Heavy Truck/Trailer (T2-T8) or other relevant areas is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Strength and Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment (up to 50+lbs), and work in various positions (standing, kneeling, etc.) for extended periods.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools.
- Good Vision: Ability to see small parts and read technical manuals.
Other Requirements:
- Drug Free: Must be able and willing to pass periodic random drug screenings.
- Safety Awareness: Strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and customers. .
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work well with others and assist in training junior mechanics or apprentices.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
