Central Florida Retina is looking for a Full-time ophthalmic technician to work at our growing and busy practices in Orlando, Oviedo and Kissimmee locations. The chosen candidate will assist in the smooth operations of the ophthalmology practice by performing basic, advanced and complex procedures. Tasks should be handled accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner. Must be well organized and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, have excellent computer skills, communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule; demonstrate commitment to ongoing education and cumulative skill mix. Must uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality and other performance standards. Provide verification of educational classes and in-services attended. One year of ophthalmic experience is preferred. Some travel is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understanding of ophthalmic practice work flow and patient care
- Ability to clearly communicate well with patients regarding retina procedures
- Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms and ocular medications
- Performs patient workup by preparing patients for physician’s exam
- Performing tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physician’s preference. Test include but not limited to lensometry, tonometry, visual field (confrontational field) testing, Amsler grids, muscle testing, pupil exams, topography.
- Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories
- Utilizes proper eye drop technique and sterility
- Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.
- Returns phone calls to patients and pharmacies
- Cleans and maintains all equipment being used according to sterile technique.
- Ability to asses common safety hazards and takes precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Utilizes proper universal precautions procedures and HIPAA regulations
- Maintain compliance with Medicare and other insurance documentation requirement
- Has basic knowledge of contact lenses
- Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in job assignments
- Ability to communicate with physicians, patients, co-workers and supervisors is critical
- Has a working understanding of ultrasounds, fundus photos, fluorescein angiography and ICG angiography.
