Administrative Assistant for Multiple Sclerosis & Neurology Practice

The Elliot Lewis Center is hiring an Administrative Assistant. The Center offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients with multiple sclerosis and their families and caregivers, in a warm and personalized setting. The Center is seeking to find a highly organized candidate to help support the busy practice.
Administrative Assistants have a great deal of patient and physician interaction. Assistants coordinate appointments, obtain insurance authorizations for prescriptions and imaging, coordinate outside tests, process prescriptions, triage phone calls and work closely with physicians in implement care plans for patients. Assistants attend the daily team meeting, interacting with physicians, nurses, social worker, infusion center team, research coordinators and other administrative staff. Assistants will also participate in bi-monthly education sessions, where staff learns about different aspects of multiple sclerosis.
This position is a terrific opportunity to learn about multiple sclerosis, the practice of clinical neurology and gain experience working with physicians, nurses, social workers, research and patients. The ability to work well with a team is a requirement, and strongly motivated individuals are sure to have a valuable experience. This position requires incredible organizational skills, high attention to detail and motivation to be successful.
This is an in-office position. As this position often attracts gap-year medical students or graduate students, please note the position requires a minimum of 2-year commitment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage phone calls, messages, and e-mails
- Schedule patient appointments and tests (MRI, EMG, EEG)
- Work with paper charts and electronic medical record (EMR)
- Obtain insurance authorizations and referrals
- Review intake materials and implement a plan for tests and coordinate care
- Process prescriptions
- Perform general clerical duties
Skills and Abilities Required
- BA/BS REQUIRED
- Strong candidates are detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to problem-solve and work independently
- Organizational skills are critical
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, physicians and other personnel
