Job Description: Classroom Assistant for 2-Year-Olds
Overview: Under the supervision of the Mentor Teacher, the Classroom Assistant supports daily classroom activities, manages student behavior, and ensures a productive learning and play environment for 2-year-olds.
Key Responsibilities:
Interaction with Students:
- 1:6 adult-to-child ratio.
- Assist with recordkeeping (attendance, meals, observations).
- Create instructional materials and aids.
- Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe environment.
- Lead and monitor outdoor activities.
- Change diapers as needed.
- Develop positive relationships and provide individualized attention.
- Engage in play and activities.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the health and safety of all students.
- Address safety hazards.
- Write and review incident reports.
- Supervise students at all times
- Clean and disinfect daily.
Planning:
- Assist in lesson preparation.
- Support lesson planning based on student needs.
- Help plan and conduct parent conferences.
Interaction with Parents/Guardians:
- Greet parents/guardians and students at drop-off and pick-up.
- Share positive updates with parents/guardians.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect cultural diversity.
- Encourage family involvement and communicate classroom activities.
- Document parent interactions and feedback.
Classroom Appearance:
- Create a diverse and engaging classroom environment.
- Label shelves and display student artwork.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization.
General:
- Provide leadership
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Set professional goals and participate in events.
- Report pertinent information to the mentor-teacher and supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or 20 ECE credits preferred.
- Complete required training and register with STARS.
Continuing Education:
- Complete 10 hours of continuing education yearly.
Health and Safety:
- Proof of a recent physical examination and TB test.
- Food Handlers Permit.
- CPR, First Aid, HIV, and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
Skills:
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Effective communication and positive interaction with children, parents, and staff.
- Flexibility and ability to handle varied situations.
- Basic clerical skills.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.25 - $21.10 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
