POSITION TITLE: Cake Decorator
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Bakery Manager _______________________________________________________________________
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To provide quality, decorative designs for customer special orders and a variety of bakery products.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on ensuring the proper quantity and quality of product is available for the customer. Primary learning challenge is developing proficiency in decorating and paying attention to detail and neatness while maintaining production level requirements. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, standing, and light lifting. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Bakery Manager, Bakery Merchandiser or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1. Orders proper quantity of cakes to be sold
- Follows and completes daily and weekly quantities of cakes to be decorated and sold as determined by the Bakery Manager or person in charge
- Retrieves cakes from freezer for decorating and icing
2. Ices cakes
- Ensures proper consistency for both butter cream and better cream icing
- Prepares cakes to be decorated
3. Decorates cakes
- Follows approved decorating styles and creates new decoration as appropriate
- Follows and completes production assignments
- Ensures consistent quality and accuracy in decorating
- Decorates for special orders
- Ensures a variety of product is prepared for maximum sales potential
4. Places cakes in proper containers and locations for sale or storage
- Labels cakes and stocks product properly
- Stores overstock in freezer and removes stales daily
5. Maintains a clean and organized decorating area and ensures adequate decorating
supplies are maintained
Functional Requirements
Frequent: Physical – walking, lifting/carrying 5 to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling 100 to 200 lbs., standing, turning, walking, reaching, stooping/bending, squatting, equipment operation (spatula, mixer, lazy Susan, decorating tubes, air brush, copy machine, cake projector, labeler, cart racks, chemical resistant gloves,
splash goggles, cleaning equipment)
Mental - judgment/decision making, reading, writing, memorization, social skills/verbal interaction, reaching
Occasional: Physical - pushing/pulling 100 to 500 lbs., lifting/carrying more than 40 lbs.
6. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
7. Assists customers with information or requests
- Ensures customer satisfaction
- Takes special orders and requests
- Provides product information and location
8. Education and/or Experience
-High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
