Carbide Industries, the leading manufacturer of Calcium Carbide, is seeking a strong leader for a full time Maintenance leadership position at its Louisville, KY facility.
Our Louisville facility operates the only submerged Electrical Arc Furnace for the manufacture of Calcium Carbide in the US and Canada, providing the chemical energy needed to drive industrial innovation in steelmaking, foundry operations, acetylene production and chemical intermediates.
Responsibilities
The Maintenance Manager will:
· Follow all safety requirements and be responsible for safety compliance within the dept.
· Assist maintenance leadership in managing the maintenance of processing and packaging equipment, critical systems and facilities to ensure continued operation of the plant. This would include furnace repair, conveyors, crushing equipment, screens, baghouses, ball mill equipment, loading equipment, stick welding, machining, gearbox repair, motor and pump repair, rigging, heavy equipment operation, excavation, pond maintenance, wells, outfalls, and other general property maintenance.
· Plan, budget, and coordinate daily maintenance, as well as shutdown activities, with Production and Electrical departments.
· Review, write, and maintain standard operating procedures.
· Assist in managing maintenance projects. May prepare capital spending requests.
· Evaluate and integrate new equipment into existing manufacturing operations as needed.
· Prepare purchase orders for needed parts and equipment. Monitor and make recommendations for the spare parts inventory.
· Stay current on engineering controls, government standards and other regulations and recommends changes to improve efficiencies.
· Participate in human resource activities such as: new hire selection and orientation, training, personnel reviews, schedule work and approve time records for Maintenance Mechanics.
· Become familiar with the current labor agreement and respond to grievances and other employee problems.
Requirements:
· BS degree in a related discipline, and 5+ years of progressively responsible maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Some supervisory experience is needed. Experience supervising a unionized workforce strongly desired.
· Heavy industrial manufacturing experience essential, chemical, metal, or mining industries preferred.
· Experience in predictive/preventative maintenance systems strongly desired.
· Computer literacy in MS Office and the ability to learn Payroll, Purchasing and Maintenance Planning Software.
· Must have good communication skills, ability to read and understand prints and drawings, as well as analytical and math skills.
· Ability to perform well in a high stress, demanding setting where performance is critical to the success of the Company.
· Ability to maintain good working relationships to achieve desired maintenance objectives.
· Must be able to drive plant vehicles, wear respirators, walk up and down stairways, inclines, and ladders as well as work at elevated levels (heights) and in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
Moving machinery, dust, heat, cold and noise. Occasional use of a respirator, works at heights & within confined spaces. Daily PPE consists of hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection.
