The clinician is a member of a co-deployed team with either the Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Department or the Sheriff’s Department. Services are provided to individuals and families of all ages. The primary goals of the co-deployed teams are to divert individuals from jail, emergency departments and inpatient psychiatric treatment and reduce recidivism of competency evaluation requests.
The Team will respond to any calls received by the officer, deputy or paramedic they are assigned to for the day. They will, using Motivational Interviewing, provide rapid response, assessment services, crisis intervention, engagement, supportive counseling, information and referral, linkage to requested/necessary resources and appropriate community-based mental health and chemical dependency services for ongoing treatment and follow-up to individuals and families of all ages in community-based settings.
The team works a modified shift based on the officer, deputy or paramedic’s schedule.
SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
- Spokane Police Department - Monday-Thursday- 8AM-6PM
- Spokane Police Department - Tuesday-Friday - 6AM-4PM
- Spokane County Sheriff - Monday-Thursday 7AM-5PM
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES includes but are not limited to the following:
- Partner with the assigned emergency responder to respond to emergency calls in the community. This includes engaging with individuals to provide stabilization services to divert them from jail, emergency departments, or inpatient psychiatric treatment.
- Complete assessments of risk to determine if crisis can be resolved by referrals to community resources or if referral to MCAT, CRS, or transport to ED is necessary.
- Facilitate use of/access to crisis hospital diversion resources, including Stabilization and/or E&T admission and psychiatric beds at the House of Charity as individual contract allow.
- If an individual is transported to the ED, the clinician will be responsible for contacting appropriate ED staff (charge nurse, social worker, case manager) to relay crisis information and coordinate admission to ED.
- Assist individuals in obtaining basic needs such as housing, financial assistance, medical services, medications, and other resources that will help them maintain stability in the community.
- Effectively utilize customer service and motivational interviewing skills to promote appropriate customer-centered care.
- Maintain data as required by the contract.
- Document in EMR accurately, within defined timelines and in compliance with FBH policy.
- Apply training received from orientation and training related to Trauma Informed Care, MOAB, crisis intervention, Motivational Interviewing and basic communication skills.
- Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner while engaging with the community at large as a representative of FBH.
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in the behavioral sciences - Pay will be determined based on degree level and licensure as indicated below.
- One year of experience working with psychiatrically impaired populations
- Must be eligible for Agency Affiliation in the state of Washington
- Must pass a Law Enforcement Interview and Background check.
PREFERRED:
- Two years of experience working with psychiatrically impaired populations preferred.
- Experience working with emergency responders such as police or fire departments preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and methods
- Ability to remain calm and maintain clarity in thought during high stress, high risk situations
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Sensitivity to individuals’ unique cultural characteristics, and to the challenges faced by the socioeconomically disadvantaged.

PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt):*
- Clinician I - Bachelor's Degree & No Licensure - $25.89 - $31.53 per hour
- Mental Health Clinician II - Master's Degree & No Licensure: $31.84 - $38.79 per hour
- Mental Health Clinician III - Master's Degree & Licensure: $33.70 - $41.06 per hour
*All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus the starting pay for this position is as follows:
- Clinician I - Bachelor's Degree & No Licensure - $25.89 per hour
- Mental Health Clinician II - Master's Degree & No Licensure: $31.84 per hour.
- Mental Health Clinician III - Master's Degree & Licensure: $33.70 per hour.
