General Responsibilities:
The Educational Coordinator/Program Function Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Educational Services in the day-to-day operation of the classroom educational services and implementation and monitoring of all behavioral programming. The Educational Coordinator/Program Function Manager assures appropriate staffing resources (e.g., number of staff, training and supervisor of staff) to ensure the delivery of each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). He or she assures implementation of the curriculum in conjunction with Lead Special Education Teachers, under the supervision of the Director of Educational Services. He or she works to ensure that the behavioral programs developed are appropriate to the ages and populations served. In addition, the Educational Coordinator/Program Function Manager assists the Director of Educational Services to ensure that all requirements are met for acquiring and maintaining all program applicable licenses, certifications and accreditation.
Melmark Carolinas serves children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The Educational Coordinator position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Students served may have had multiple treatment failures prior to this placement. Educational Coordinators are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require Educational Coordinators to be constantly alert, attentive and ready to respond to student’s needs.
Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:30a-4p
Starting Salary: $73,000.00 (+) based on years of experience
Basic Qualifications:
Education/Training: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Special Education, Master’s Degree preferred.
Certifications/Licensure: Must be (a) be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at the Master’s level or working towards being board-eligible, and (b) have an applicable Exceptional Children license (e.g., Special Education – Adapted Curriculum, Special Education – General Curriculum) issued by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction or working towards being eligible. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet North Carolina background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark’s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program.
Skill(s): Must demonstrate strong reading, written and oral language skills. Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience or interest in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis, curriculum and special education (Autism Spectrum Disorders). Strong interpersonal skills are required.
Experience: Prefer at least three (3) years experience and supervisory experience in a special education setting. Advanced skills in educational and clinical services will be required in this role.
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (Nursing Services, Vocational Services, Clinical Services, and Allied Health Services) to ensure that each student’s educational requirements are met.
