Interrelationships: Physician, ARNP, Clinic Administrator, Community Primary Care Physicians, Martin Health Systems, Care Managers, Patients and Caregivers
Job Summary: Perform administrative and designated clinical duties under the direction of the Physician and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, charting designated fields in the electronic medical record, billing and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, drawing blood and administering medications as directed by the Physician or ARNP.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and interview patients to obtain medical information/history and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Record patient medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in reviewed medical records.
- Show patient to the examination room and prepare them for Physician/ARNP visit.
- Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens utilizing proper identification process standards. Log the specimens and prepare for lab pick up, or in clinic testing.
- Perform 12 lead Ekg’s, and other routine clinic diagnostic tests.
- Assist Physician/ARNP in the examination and treatment of patients, passing instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.
- Assist Physician/ARNP in authorizing prescription refills and transmit such information to designated pharmacy.
- Reinforce Physician/ARNP treatment procedures, prescribed diets, medications and any pertinent clinic information.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean utilizing accepted housekeeping practices to prevent cross contamination.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Change dressing on wounds if within scope of training.
- Schedule appointments for patients.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission.
- Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation and completing insurance forms.
- Inventory and order medical, lab and office supplies and equipment.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses based on equipment requirements re controls, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
Education/Experience:
- Graduate of Florida accredited vocational college or technical program with Medical Assistant Certification.
- Experience (two-year minimum) in physician’s office or hospital setting.
- Experience with billing and coding.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate physician instructions to the patient Knowledge of pharmacology.
- Ability to perform clinical duties.
- Ability to perform advanced electronic medical data entry.
- Ability to bill insurance providers and/or Medicare/Medicaid.
- Valid Florida license and reliable transportation with acceptable insurance.
- bi-lingual a plus.
- Successful completion of a level 2 background screening.
Professional Representation:
Expected to maintain clean, well-groomed appearance and dress appropriately for the position.
General:
- Must be available to work during all hours of operation.
- Occasional overtime and weekend hours as required; flexible hours to accommodate operational needs.
- Compliance with smoke-free, drug free workplace, safety requirements, ADA, funding source mandates and Council policies.
