Due to a recent promotion, this Investment Management leader seeks an exceptional Payroll Accountant with a positive attitude and is highly motivated to join their growing Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Compensation, you will oversee payroll accounting in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. You will also act as the main point of contact for employee payroll-related questions and work closely with the HR team, performing various functions in preparing, processing, verifying, and reconciling employee leave information, retirement, and payroll/benefits records.
This highly visible role offers you exposure across all divisions and senior management and a tremendous opportunity to gain experience with a leader in their industry. You will also be encouraged to go beyond the traditional payroll accounting responsibilities and work on various projects, leveraging data and analytical skills to drive better company performance.
What You'll Do
- Manage the payroll process for approximately 500 employees and ensure all deductions and earnings are correctly coded.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Assist in reconciling journal entries for each payroll to the general ledger. Reconcile liability accounts related to payroll and various compensation accounts
- Assist with the year-end processing of bonus and deferred compensation payroll reconciliation
- Audit payroll for accuracy and reconcile to the G/L and bank accounts
- Communicate payroll deductions to the retirement administrator related to the 401K plan
- Provide compensation data to the HR team
- Support the year-end audit of payroll records by internal, external, and government authorities.
What They Need
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or similar discipline
- CPP designation is a plus
- At least two to four years of related payroll processing experience
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Word) is required
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Ability to partner with the Human Resource team and effectively communicate with employees at all levels regarding payroll-related issues
- A high degree of dedication to improvement and a strong sense of ownership
