Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides essential care and support to patients with mental health and behavioral disorders. The BHT works under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals to assist with the implementation of treatment plans, monitor patient behavior, and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. This role requires empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
- Patient Care:
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and meal assistance.
- Monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report any changes to the healthcare team.
- Support patients in managing their treatment plans and achieving their recovery goals.
- Behavioral Support:
- Observe and document patient behavior, mood, and interactions.
- Implement therapeutic interventions and de-escalation techniques as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate group activities and support groups to promote socialization and skill development.
- Safety and Supervision:
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
- Conduct regular safety checks and ensure compliance with facility policies and procedures.
- Supervise patients during activities, mealtimes, and in common areas.
- Documentation:
- Accurately document patient observations, interventions, and progress in electronic health records (EHR).
- Maintain clear and concise records of patient interactions and incidents.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to treatment planning and case discussions.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Support the healthcare team in delivering individualized patient care and interventions.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Stay current with best practices in behavioral health and patient care.
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ year of experience in a behavioral health or mental health setting preferred.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) program or similar training is preferred.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT) certification preferred.
- Skills:
- Empathy and Compassion: Strong ability to provide empathetic and compassionate care to patients.
- Behavioral Management: Knowledge of behavioral health principles and de-escalation techniques.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as assisting patients with mobility and maintaining a safe environment.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative healthcare environment.
- Advanced Training: Additional certifications or training in specialized areas of behavioral health are a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
