Position Title: Graphic Designer
Department: Marketing and Communications
Position Summary: The Graphic Designer reports directly to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications. This position is responsible for creating marketing and branding materials, both online and print, to support and enhance the university’s branding efforts. The ideal candidate is a brand champion, applying the university’s brand guidelines and standards to graphics and images developed for online and printed marketing and advertising campaigns and materials that support the university’s marketing goals. This position provides creative and graphic design support to university departments such as Admissions, Academic Affairs, the Office of the President, Development & Alumni Relations, Student Affairs, and ensures TLU’s brand image and message are consistently and effectively applied throughout all University marketing materials.
Job Responsibilities:
I. Administrative
A. Creates marketing materials that align with TLU’s branding guidelines and standards.
B. Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces a wide range of specialized graphic and/or illustrative material, to include multimedia concepts, as appropriate.
C. Works with internal clients and external marketing partners to ascertain needs and to develop graphic directions, concepts, and specifications for assigned projects.
D. Advises on effective use of graphic design elements to communicate key messages and ensure consistency of TLU brand image.
E. Demonstrates excellent attention to detail and ability to proof work before routing to another team member or client for review and approval.
F. Provides excellent customer service while soliciting input from clients then offering creative recommendations and suggestions. Verbally communicates with internal clients to explain design concepts and approach.
G. Manages all aspects of creative projects from submission to delivery. Communicates with clients and vendors regarding print quotes, postage, proofing, approvals, and all aspects of a project.
H. Coordinates multiple tasks simultaneously, establishes priorities and works in an organized manner using the team’s project management software. Manages design files using an established file naming convention.
I. Works well in a team environment and proactively communicates status of projects with members of the Marketing team on a regular basis. Attends weekly meetings to discuss all creative requests and projects received.
J. Develops and writes printing and/or other production specifications, and selects appropriate production media and materials, such as paper; inspects proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards.
K. Provides technical advice and guidance and serves as main point of contact with print representatives, production staff, Marketing staff, and clients on design and technical graphics issues.
L. Works with Director of Communications for assistance with grammar corrections and minor editing to ensure uniformity of style.

Qualifications:
I. Education
· Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, advertising, marketing, or related field. Graphic design degree preferred.
II. Experience
· A minimum of two years of related experience required.
III. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Suite and macOS Ventura.
· Ability to manage several creative projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external clients.
· Excellent attention to detail and proofing/copyediting skills.
· Must be collaborative and willing to be part of a fast-paced team. Must be able to take initiative and work independently but ask questions and seek input when necessary.
· Understanding of supporting devices such as scanners, printers, and removable media; Knowledge of offset printing, digital printing, color separations, and preparation of print-ready electronic files.
· Understand and support the mission and strategic plan of Texas Lutheran University.
