About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary:
The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Technician II position in Schertz, Texas. As a maintenance technician, you will perform preventative and corrective maintenance of the facility and equipment that support the production of Caterpillar diesel engines. Your daily tasks often include mentoring lesser experienced maintenance technicians, responding to operational calls by troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with the assembly systems and equipment.
What you will do:
Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on production, material-handling and high-tech automated equipment in the facility’s buildings, in accordance with work orders and technical documentation
Respond to operational calls for troubleshooting/diagnosing problems with assembly systems and equipment
Operate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical assembly, and material-handling equipment (i.e., fork trucks, conveyors, and robotic equipment)
Exercise knowledge of industrial electricity, including single-phase and three-phase power, motors, protective devices, and photo sensors
Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and without interrupting production operations
Provide professional development and on-the-job training to level 1 & 2 maintenance technicians
Audit level 1 & 2 maintenance technician work for consistency and correctness
Coordinate activities, plans, and programs of your areas of responsibility within the guidelines of authorized company policies, procedures, budgets, laws, and good business ethics
Work as a contributing member of the maintenance team to provide the best service and maximize uptime of the production facilities
Monitor maintenance upkeep checklists to ensure efficient equipment operation
Complete CMMS work order documentation for complete work history and parts inventory tracking
Submit and assist with the creation and resolution of Continuous Improvement Cards
Document and correct safety issues to maintain a safe work environment
Work cooperatively as a team with engineering, operations, logistics, janitorial, quality, and environmental health and safety departments
What you will have:
Must satisfy time-in-role requirements
Must meet Caterpillar disciplinary guidelines for consideration
2-5 years of work experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electrical/electronic production and material-handling equipment
2 years of work experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems (i.e., Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), System Control Software (SCS), and scanners)
2 years of work experience reading PLC ladder logic and transferring data from PLCs to laptops to personal computers and back
Advanced knowledge in AC/DC theory, relays, switches, solenoids, fuses, breakers, power generation and distribution (including 480V 3-phase), electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures, National Electric Code, digital multimeter operation, and motor theory and protection
Advanced mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment.
Knowledge of all phases of cutting and welding
Experience in a new generation-ASRS production facility, or comparable automated production facility
Knowledge and compliance with OSHA regulations
Familiar with PM procedures, including performing PMs, logging completion, etc.
Mastery of all production facility’s systems, including conveyors, robotic equipment, and industrial trucks (ASRS, AKL, and Auto Guided Vehicles (AGVs))
Ability to read and understand mechanical and building blueprints as well as electrical schematics
Must be familiar with electronics such as photo sensors, PLCs, remote I/Os, servo drives, and variable frequency drives
Ability to adjust to constantly changing priorities and ability to multi-task
Must have good organization skills, computer skills (Word and Excel), and basic math skills (Algebra)
Ability to perform repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, walking, and lift parts and tools weighing 20lbs+
What would make you a top candidate:
Experience servicing and troubleshooting EFT and LBT equipment
Knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures
Experience in CNC and conventional metal-removal equipment
Experience working in a team environment and willingness to train/mentor less experienced technicians
