Job Description: Field Technician, Critical Power
Job Summary:
The Critical Power Technician is responsible for performing installation, preventative maintenance, battery change outs, equipment commissioning and other electrical tasks in critical power facilities, data centers and IT Rooms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance on UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) systems, battery systems, and DC equipment per manufacturing specifications while observing site safety, procedures and policies.
- Install electrical equipment such as Battery Cabinets, Maintenance By-pass, Battery Monitoring Equipment, DC Systems and other electrical equipment.
- Record, maintain service records and analyze data to provide feedback to customer and internal groups on equipment status and needs.
- Customer relationship building – provide excellent customer service; upsell products.
- Field troubleshooting calls from customers to satisfactory resolution.
- Quickly respond to critical situations.
- Provide training to other technicians.
- Assist with scheduling service tasks.
Additional Requirements:
- Assist production when required.
- Work weekends or afterhours as needed.
- Travel out of state as needed.
- Train factory personnel in use of electrical test equipment and monitoring equipment.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- One year or more in critical facilities environment or equivalent course work.
- Good understanding of AC/DC electrical principles.
- Knowledge of test equipment operation such as multi-meters, and battery test equipment.
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
- Ability to lift 100 to 150 lb. batteries repeatedly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Analytical ability to prioritize work and move from task to task.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Basic computer skills including working knowledge of MS Word and Exel.
- Flexible schedule including mandatory overtime with occasional late and weekend work.
Working Conditions:
Primary – Field: Customer Sites, IT Rooms, Data Centers
Secondary – Office Environment, Factory (exposed to noise, dust, etc.)
Travel: 80%
