The estimator works very closely with the sales team to generate estimates for our manufactured and distributed products. Estimates are based upon field dimensions gathered from the project site, conversations with sales and customer direct, information provided by vendors, and meetings with our internal engineering and management teams. The position is responsible for preparing close to actual cost estimates, communicating with sales / vendors / customers / peers, tracking completed estimates and prioritizing new estimates.
Essential Functions
- Work with sales team and customers to clearly define project scope, goals, deliverables and exclusions.
- Effectively communicate project expectations to clients and vendors in a timely and clear fashion.
- Take scope of work and drawings from engineering and produce line-item quotations for the sales team to sell our solutions.
- Review customer purchase orders and reconcile with estimator generated proposals. Negotiate discrepancies between the two prior to accepting purchase order.
- Requires good listening and understanding.
- Create consistent quotations within defined deadlines.
- Obtain quotes and/or effectively estimate costs for required materials that will be purchased from outside vendors.
- Get quotes from vendors for items such as freight, machining, or parts.
- Present cost estimates to upper management for review.
- Quote log tracking, keeping quotes logged and updated, and on time.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required - Engineering degree a PLUS!
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle high-pressure and to switch between multiple tasks as necessary while maintaining a desire to see a task through to completion.
- Dependable, self-motivated and results driven individual.
- Task oriented with strong attention to detail.
- Complex problem solving and demonstrated analytical reasoning abilities, solid math skills.
- Solid computer and data entry skills; Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
