Preschool Classroom Observer: Scheduling and Observing Preschool Teachers in FL

The Florida Center for Reading Research is located in Innovation Park at 2010 Levy Avenue, Tallahassee, FL. The work for this position will be done at various preschool centers throughout Florida with a focus on the Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Palm Coast, and Fort Lauderdale areas.

Responsibilities
Coordination with other project staff, classroom teachers, and school administration is required.
Classroom observers will complete a 90 minute observation form in a preschool classroom that has consented to observation and randomly selected to participate. Classroom Observers must learn how to administer the observation instruments. Training Materials will be provided. Observations will take place in the general classroom. Observations occur during a 90 minute window in the morning typically between 8:00AM-12:00PM.
We expect most Contracted employees will have the opportunity to complete approximately 5 observations. You will receive a stipend of 125.00 for completing each 90 minute observation. Transportation is extremely important. Flexibility and willingness to travel can increase your opportunity to conduct more observations.
Qualifications
High school diploma.
Experience in early childhood and/or elementary educational settings; this can include classroom teaching, teacher assistant, tutoring, or related experience.
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation on a daily basis.
Must have reliable means of communicating through email.
Must be available to work Monday through Friday during normal school hours of 8:00AM-12:00PM.
Must be able to follow directions and pay close attention to details, work independently, and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Other key attributes include: strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal skills; ability to meet deadlines and work as a team member; and must be reliable and punctual.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Education Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Special Education, or other related field is preferred, as is experience in teaching, tutoring, and test administration.
Background knowledge in early literacy and/or elementary school reading is ideal.
Other Information
This study at the Florida State University is seeking part-time research assistants to conduct observations of preschool classrooms and collect remote interviews in multiple counties in Florida. The duration of the study will be June 24, 2024 through July 31, 2024. This work requires travel to preschool centers and elementary schools around the state of Florida.

Anticipated Salary Range

Soft Money Funded Position
This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.
Schedule
Position to include approximately 1-10 hours a week for the duration of the study (June 2024 through July 31, 2024). Observations are typically completed between 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to possibly include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
