Domestic Violence Primary Prevention /Outreach Advocate – Monroe County

That’s why domestic violence advocates are a vital resource. These professional advocates help survivors of domestic violence receive the resources and assistance they need to cope and move forward with their lives. An advocate’s role is to educate and empower.
The Domestic Abuse Shelter (DAS), a crisis center for survivors of domestic violence, has an immediate opening for a full-time Primary Prevention Outreach Advocate. Primarily the work schedule is M-F 8-5 with some weekends and evenings, but candidates may need to work a varied schedule to ensure coverage of the 24-hour emergency shelter facilities. This is a non-degreed position that will require the advocate to work collaboratively with community partners. The primary prevention advocate is responsible for Primary Prevention activities under the Primary Prevention grant and will deliver prevention education and awareness to the targeted youth population in Monroe County by delivering a series of educational classes in the classroom as well as at community events while creating a coordinated community response to intimate partner violence in an effort to reduce, create better response to and eliminate it. Advocates serve as a liaison to community partners including law enforcement and the judicial system. The primary prevention advocate will organize and provide support for special projects such as community awareness/training and will attend local meetings. The primary prevention advocate will also provide direct services to survivors of domestic violence as an Outreach Advocate, including safety planning, providing local resources and referrals, relocation assistance through the OAG and supportive counseling services.
Experience in social service related field, preferred but not required, training will be provided. Those who identify as survivors of violence or abuse are encouraged to apply.
Starting salary - $37,440, overtime available. Additional $1.00 for verifiable read, write and speak bilingual. Employee Health benefits paid at 90% after ninety days. Paid holidays and generous PTO accrual. Optional retirement plan with DAS match, up to 3%, after one year. A onetime $1000.00 retention bonus will be paid out after one year of employment without disciplinary action.
If selected for employment, you must be a resident of Monroe County at the time of hiring and live within 50 miles of the service location you will be working from. All employees must pass a Level II background check to maintain employment. All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and provide documentation.
