Nature of Work
The Director of Advisor Services will serve as a subject matter expert and resource to wealth advisors and other prospect groups across the Louisville area on how the Community Foundation of Louisville can help individuals incorporate charitable giving strategies into their wealth management plans. Specifically, this Director will cultivate and develop relationships with professional advisors (such as attorneys, CPAs, financial planners, wealth advisors and trust officers), membership groups, professional associations, and prospective donors, with the ultimate goals of broadening the Foundation’s reach, growing our referral base, and increasing the number of new donor funds we establish. This individual will spend the majority of their time out of the office networking, attending individual and small group meetings, and leading presentations and/or educational sessions about the Foundation’s products, gift planning tools, and donor services.
In addition, this position manages two of the Foundation’s affiliate community foundations outside of Louisville—the Green River Area Community Foundation (in Owensboro) and the Wilderness Trace Community Foundation (in Danville). This affiliate work requires travel to each of these areas quarterly and will include working with prospects and advisors within these areas to cultivate new gifts and establish new funds.
This individual will work closely with the Foundation’s Director of Gift Planning to coordinate outreach efforts, provide seamless services to new fundholders, and establish new funds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs to cultivate relationships with professional advisors and other prospect groups in order to cultivate gifts and new funds for the Foundation.
- Identify new prospect groups and referral sources for the Foundation then develop and implement outreach efforts to help those new groups become aware of the Foundation’s products and services.
- Plan and execute continuing education sessions for professional advisors as appropriate, including an annual professional advisor seminar in May.
- Plan and execute educational sessions for current Foundation fundholders on aspects of charitable giving that impact tax and estate planning.
- Make presentations to professional advisors and other community groups on the benefits of using the Community Foundation of Louisville to accomplish charitable objectives.
- Respond to inquiries from individuals and groups about the Foundation’s services and products offered to donors, their advisors, and charitable organizations.
- Maintain prospective fundholder and advisor information in the Foundation’s computer databases.
- Maintain the Foundation’s commitment to providing the highest level of customer service to its referral sources, fundholders, and other constituents.
- Participate in local and regional membership organizations that may include prospects and/or referral sources, such as professional advisors, charitable gift planners, business owners, young professionals, etc.
- Other assignments and special projects as assigned by the Vice President, Philanthropic Services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to be an active listener, gain trust, and form genuine connections with constituents, prospects, and donors.
- Self-motivated, high-energy, and a “people person,” who loves meeting with and interacting with new potential customers.
- Familiarity with charitable giving strategies and techniques, including the tax laws relevant to charitable giving.
- Understanding of and connection with Louisville’s existing philanthropic and professional advisor communities.
- A high level of confidence and comfort in making presentations in front of both large and small group audiences, including experience and proficiency with PowerPoint.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to exercise good judgment and be a team player is essential, including having a flexible and collaborative work style.
- A commitment to the highest level of customer service is required.
- A passion for philanthropy and our local community.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Additional degree or credential preferred but not required, such as a Masters, JD, Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®).
- A background in financial planning, charitable planning, trusts and estates, customer service, marketing, sales and/or business development would be a plus.

Physical Requirements
This position may require the ability to lift objects of at least 15 pounds in weight. Job duties require approximately 75% sitting/typing and 25% moving around. Physical requirements will vary depending upon the specific duties to be accomplished. In addition, it is a requirement of this position that the successful candidate be able to maintain a physical presence in the Louisville headquarters offices regularly and consistently and for the full regular working week. Access to and ability to operate a vehicle is required for work-related travel. Attendance may be required at special events during normal working hours or outside the normal work week.
Compensation
The position is a professional, full-time, exempt staff assignment, and will be eligible to participate in the Foundation’s Employee Health and Benefits Plan as set forth in the Foundation’s personnel policies. Compensation will be set according to the Foundation’s approved compensation policy.
