Insurance Verification Specialist Overview:
Responsible for making sure patients have proper insurance coverage for the services provided by the clinic.
Insurance Verification Specialist Responsibilities and Duties:
- Verifying insurance coverage of each patient on their assigned providers
- Explaining coverages to patients
- Obtaining authorizations for patients when their insurance company requires one
- Updating patient information/keeping records
- Filling out documentation required for billing
- Stay update on all accepting insurances
- Monitoring clinic schedules for daily patient additions
EDUCATION:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years’ previous experience in insurance verifications or in a related healthcare administrative position

SKILLS:
Must have the following skills and/or abilities:
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Self-motivated and self-directed; able to work without supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel); working knowledge of billing software a plus
- Strong customer service skills and comfortable answering both patient and insurance company questions
- Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
- Constantly stands and sits within a given day while conducting work functions such as providing processing patient records, documenting, cleaning, and interacting with patients and coworkers.
- Constantly using of fingers and hands when typing, using a 10-key number pad, handling pens/pencils, forms/paper, telephone, tools, or other computer or office equipment.
- Frequently lifts, transfers, pushes, or pulls up to 15 lbs. of files, supply boxes, or other small office equipment.
- Hears average or normal conversations and receives ordinary information through verbal communications.
- Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to utilize the computer or other office machinery, and to read or write instruction manuals or other documents.
- Frequently move about the office which may include climbing stairs, stopping, kneeling, and/or bending.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical therapy office atmosphere located inside a building with no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
