Job Description of a Traffic Control Plan Drafter
The Plan drafter is responsible for the timely production of traffic control plans in compliance with the MUTCD regulations in addition to all applicable state and local guidelines. The drafter is tasked with using all available traffic knowledge, software and materials required to complete and provide comprehensive traffic control plans to clients. This position will work with our Client at our Client location or our office through the duration of a long-term project(s). The Planner is required to constantly & continuously interact with the client to assess their needs and provide plans that are safe, thorough, and useful to assist in in the successful completion of projects.
Basic Job Task
Management and Coordination of Clients:
Monitor, review and revise traffic control plans and production.
Provide direct insight and suggestions to clients/ our team to ensure product quality and efficiency are maintained.
Review backlog of work and assess plan production for the day/week
Communication to client via email, phone, meetings and other means necessary to ensure that all needs/expectations are met in a timely manner.
Coordinate frequently with client points of contact to assess future/upcoming needs and prepare materials in advance
Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the client(s).
A drafter will work basic work week hours, with occasional weekend work required. It will require sitting at a desk, using a computer most of the day, with some filing involved.
Skills for the Job
A Traffic Control Plan Drafter must be organized. S/he should have quick decision-making abilities for situations that can arise suddenly, and unexpectedly. S/he must work well alone and as a member of a group. S/he should possess strong communication skills in order to communicate with construction workers, dispatchers, and inspectors for the entities. Drafters should be professional and courteous, even when dealing with agitated customers, contractors, and or inspectors. Drafters must also possess, at a minimum, basic computer skills.
