As a part-time Library Assistant for our
Perry Library
, you will provide routine customer service, service routing, and clerical work for our library. Your role will be essential in guiding our customers to explore and use library services.

We Require
Two years of customer service experience
High School diploma or GED
Post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Bilingual skills in Spanish and English
Experience with library-related automation systems, such as Polaris ILS
Experience with information retrieval from library-related databases
Experience working or volunteering in a public library
Experience assisting customers with online account payments and account management
Job Contributions
Issue, verify, and renew library cards
Inform customers of their account status, answer questions, and resolve customer concerns by phone, in person, or by e-mail
Refer escalated customer concerns to appropriate staff members
Assist customers with the use of our self-service payment kiosk and initiate search for materials claimed “returned”
Process library materials for shelving and routing
Perform light cleaning duties, such as dusting, straightening, and bathroom tidying
Assist with the maintenance and display of the collection
Working Conditions
Library environment requiring evening and weekend availability
Ability to cover shifts at nearby library branches
Work may be located on a K-12 campus and involve considerable interaction with student customers
Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
Ability to push, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
