Fast-growing accounting, tax, and business consulting firm in the Bay Area is looking for a Senior Payroll Associate to provide payroll services for their clients. This is currently a part-time, remote position, with the opportunity for full-time.
Responsibilities include:
- Processing of payroll for multiple clients according to their monthly, semi-monthly, or bi-weekly calendar, in multi-state environments.
- Prepare state and federal payroll tax returns and respond to client payroll tax notices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including payroll tax reporting and remittance, UI benefits audits, workers’ compensation reporting, and payroll garnishments.
- On-board new payroll clients, including setting up payroll provider platform and opening state withholding accounts.
- Close clients’ state withholding accounts as necessary to ensure proper payroll reporting.
- Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and address employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits.
- Assist with payroll-related audits by external agencies and provide documentation and support as required.
- Process contributions to client retirement accounts.
- Work with multiple timekeeping and payroll service providers to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal and tax requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience across multiple payroll platforms, including Paychex, Gusto, and QuickBooks
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional attention to detail; superior organization skills and keen focus on process.
- Strong analytical skills, problem solver, and appreciation for consistency and accuracy.
- Self-starter who adapts well to change in a fast-paced, dynamic workplace.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
