The Cake Decorator is responsible for icing, creating appealing designs on all specialty bakery goods, and decorating custom cakes and other products based on customer and company specifications.
Responsibilities:
· Creatively decorates all cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items,
· Manages and assists in development of daily, seasonal, and special-order offerings,
· Produces in-house products to daily par levels, as specified on production sheets,
· Monitors product quality for freshness and ensures proper product rotation,
· Schedules pastry and baking production to ensure constant freshness and organization,
· Assists in all pastry production both for daily stock and special dessert orders,
· Prepares, packages, weighs, and prices bakery products for sale,
· Manages cake and icing inventory,
· Maintains and takes inventory of ingredients and stock to ensure consistent stock and availability of products,
· Manages cake out-dates daily,
· Receives and processes cake orders,
· Assists with production of all mandatory bakery products (cakes, parfaits, bars, cupcakes),
· Manages cake decorating station to include preparing icing's and following all sanitation procedures,
· Maintains, or ensures maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintains equipment in accordance with company cleanliness and safety standards,
· Maintains and constantly keeps work area clean and up to food safety standards,
· Understands written and oral directions, interprets instructional documents such as recipes, order tickets, operating procedures, and health and safety rules, and applies knowledge to perform job responsibilities,
· Uses food preparation equipment such as mixers, ovens, dough sheeters, etc.
· Follows and complies, or ensures compliance, with established procedures, including Weights & Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices,
· Decorates and/or able to learn how to decorate cakes freehand or from a picture. Cakes include personal, corporate, and wedding cakes,
· Immediately reports safety hazards and violations, and
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
· Prior retail experience desirable.
Knowledge/Skills:
· No less than two (2) years of professional cake decorating experience with a bakery, grocery store, or equivalent,
· Superior cake decorating skills (ability to make flowers and decorative borders; knowledge of elegant piping techniques),
· Ability to follow directions and established procedures,
· Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications,
· Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team,
· Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow co-workers, customers, and vendors,
· Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and co-workers,
· Ability to follow directions and procedures, effective time management and organization skills,
· Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, and
· Understanding of and compliance with the company’s quality goals.
