I. Summary of Position
The Violence Prevention Planning Specialist is responsible for collecting, researching, analyzing, organizing, and interpreting data related to issues affecting quality of life and other violence- prevention related issues in New Orleans. Specifically, this position will lead the Office of Violence Prevention efforts to develop short- and long-term violence prevention and intervention strategies; develop and work with key partners to oversee public-private collaborations to reduce community violence; and provide analytical support for research and evidence-based projects in violence prevention policy. This position will work collaboratively with community-based coalitions and organizations, health care partners, the business community, the criminal justice/law enforcement system and other stakeholders that aim to reduce gun violence rates in New Orleans. The Violence Prevention Planning Specialist will also work collaboratively with other NOHD, NOPD, hospital and community-based organizations, key stakeholders and the City of New Orleans staff whose work intersects with their own.

Assignments received from: Director of Violence Prevention and Director of the New Orleans Health Department
Interacts with:
· Public and private sector organizations, including health care providers, nonprofit organizations and universities.
· NOHD program managers and initiative coordinators
· Non-profit organizations and organization leaders
· Collaborative coalition leaders
· Other City departments, including but not limited to: Office of Violence Prevention, NOPD, the Office of Neighborhood Engagement, the Office of Youth & Families, and the Office of Criminal Justice Coordination

· New Orleans Public Schools
· New Orleans City Council
Individuals supervised: Interns as needed
III. Duties and Responsibilities
A. Core Functions (provide at least 3):
· Work with NOHD leadership and other key personnel to develop a comprehensive violence prevention and intervention strategy and oversee its implementation.
· Produces timely and organized information to assist the Office of Violence Prevention in the mitigation of violent activity.
· Performs analysis of specific incidents to aid in instituting strategic and tactical suppression and prevention activities.
· Research and collect data needed to monitor trends, patterns and changes in population, technology, operating activities, crime and calls for service which impact quality and delivery of services to the community. Uses parametric and non-parametric statical methods to analyze such data and prepare in depth and summary reports.
· Assesses and presents data necessary for making strategic planning recommendations regarding human resources deployment, resource allocation, and violence prevention.
- Produces or coordinates production of mapping products, presentation graphics, and data extraction for use by city departments.
- Engages local violence prevention groups, raises awareness of recent trends and informs groups regarding implementation of results-based strategies.
· Uses data-based information to prepare regular reports for Department leadership for use in making decisions and providing information to the public.
· Provide support for other violence prevention efforts as needed.
B. Additional Responsibilities (if applicable):
· Contribute to equity, quality improvement and organizational development initiatives within the Health Department
· Participate in the Health Department’s emergency response activities as needed.
· Collaborate with other City Hall departments on appropriate and related projects.
· Develop creative materials, including writing papers, public reports, social media posts, one pagers and other materials as needed.
· Special projects as assigned.

IV. Examples of Work (provide 3-5 examples)
· Strategy development: With NOHD leadership, local academics and researchers, and the business/civic community, develop a comprehensive, long-term gun violence prevention & intervention strategy that reflects strong, equitable community voice and participation, strengthens the human services safety net in New Orleans
· Oversee collaboration: With key organizations representing business, non-profit, and community interests, develop and assist in oversight and operation of a public-private partnership focused on implementing the violence prevention strategy.
· Data Analyst: Measures and forecasts long-term public safety related activities to contribute to problem solving, interventions and crime reduction efforts. Presents data necessary for making strategic planning recommendations. Collects data needed to monitor trends, patterns and changes within different communities throughout the New Orleans Area.
V. Qualifications and Skills
A. Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required by Department:
· A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in public health, social work, science, a social science, or a related field.
· Two (2) years of professional experience in data analysis, information technology, social work, case management, social sciences, policy, or public health programs and/or policies. A Master’s Degree in one of the fields listed above may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

B. Other Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
· Works with geographic databases in a computer mapping environment to produce analytical maps.
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge of disparities, health equity, and social determinants of health.
· Demonstrated experience in forming effective relationships and communicating with individuals, groups, and communities of diverse backgrounds, perspectives and cultures
· Assists members of the Office of Violence Prevention, NOHD and community members in obtaining data for which they have access.
· Provide excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.
· The ability to meet changing deadlines and be able to multitask.
· Recognize when an issue needs further attention from a supervisor and inform management so that the problems can be addressed.
· Proficient in written and oral communication
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
