CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
This non-exempt position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems (e.g., valves, controllers, mainlines, laterals); performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Accurately checks irrigation system using remote access;
· diagnoses, programs, and turns controllers on and off correctly;
· installs and initializes clocks and timers, locating existing zones and valves and performing pump repairs;
· interprets and programs computerized irrigation systems;
· can change a circuit panel and module on a Smart Controller correctly;
· knows how to make a colored Controller map to conduct a PMI, that is necessary to detect problems and improve irrigation efficiency;
· installs a commercial, home, and battery controller correctly;
· replaces, installs, and adjusts sprinkler nozzles and heads;
· uses correct nozzles on pop-ups and rotors;
· repairs leaks in lateral lines up to 2”;
· retrofits existing irrigation systems to provide proper water coverage;
· performs troubleshooting of systems for proper maintenance and water penetration;
· installs main lines correctly;
· accurately distinguishes between inside water lines (i.e., building) and outside water lines (i.e., irrigation);
· installs irrigation systems;
· can convert and install a drip system correctly;
· performs systematic, accurate, and timely valve diagnostics;
· operates a walk-behind trencher and compactor equipment safely;
· use shovels and/or hand tools to dig into soil to repair or replace parts;
· has a map that shows the location of the backflow, controllers, and meters;
· troubleshoots wiring problems and conducts appropriate repair;
· installs and adjust valves correctly;
· can change a valve diaphragm correctly;
· repairs and maintains valves and tracing electrical components;
· always installs valve boxes and sprinkler heads at ground level;
· can change a valve solenoid correctly;
· demonstrates proficiency with various types of tools (e.g., remote, basic hand tools, station master, voltmeter);
· demonstrates maximum safety procedures in the operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools;
· maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety;
· attends safety meetings;
· communicates well with clients, co-workers, and management;
· completes inventory and service sheets accurately, timely, and efficiently;
· purchases materials and tools necessary for project completion within budget and authority limitations;
· maintains parts inventory on vehicle;
· completes assignments within labor goals and specifications without sacrificing job quality; and
· provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and competencies for this position includes: at least two (2) years of professional irrigation experience similar to that described above.

License: Incumbents are required to possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Working Conditions: Work is conducted predominantly outdoors, exposed to varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noise levels; exposure to dust, pesticides, herbicides, grease, oils, dust, fumes, and electrical currents.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of three months.
