Working as a Ropes/Challenge Course Director, you will lead a small team of Facilitators to work with children, aged from 4 to 15, in assisting and leading low-ropes (team-building and problem solving) games and initiatives and high-ropes/challenge course facilitation. The Ropes Course Director is responsible for running activity periods for groups of around 15 children at a time, assisted by other ropes/challenge course staff and 1 or 2 counselors. The Ropes Course Director position is perfectly suited to a student or teacher (or similar) who has extensive ropes, challenge course, or rock climbing interest and/or experience. You will provide guidance and feedback to your team throughout the summer. Enjoy working in a beautiful wooded setting next to a lake in this challenging and equally rewarding position! JOB & CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- An enthusiastic, motivated, warm, friendly, caring individual.
- The ability to communicate, through patience and clarity, with children and co-workers.
- The knowledge and ability to explain and demonstrate low and high ropes fundamentals and techniques.
- A working comfort level with heights (this can't be taught!).
- The ability to climb, belay and teach belaying.
- The physical strength and fitness to climb and belay consistently.
- Applicants must be 21+ (per MA regs for this role).
- Applicants must have completed the Level Two Challenge Course Certification exam and minimum hours/days of training and experience requisites by the start of camp on June 24th (per MA regs for this role).
DATES, HOURS AND BENEFITS
- 8:00am to 4:30pm (this includes a 30-minute break per day)
- June 24th to Aug 23rd (9 wks, preferred) or Aug 16th (8 wks).
- Mon to Fri each week except for July 4th when we are closed.
- A summer salary of $7500-$8000 (depending upon experience and certifications).
- Free camp tuition for up to 2 children (a $13,000 value) of employees!
LOCATION
Everwood Day Camp is an outdoor focused summer camp featuring many physically demanding activities on land and water. Staff members are regularly required to walk, hike, and otherwise move in woods, fields, beaches, and lakes. To perform the job, each staff member of Everwood Day Camp must be physically able to travel around a large rural environment (fields, woods, beach, etc.) over uneven ground on a regular basis.
