Your Role:
As a Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional, you'll be the superhero sidekick in our students' lives. You'll work closely with our extraordinary students, providing the support they need to thrive academically and personally. Your responsibilities will include:
Superhero Duties:
- Assisting teachers in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Providing one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs.
- Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Offering personal care and assistance with daily living activities, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting.
- Collaborating with therapists and other professionals to enhance student progress.
- Monitors and encourages educational achievements, positive student behavior and independence.
- Implements approved behavior management plans appropriate for individual student needs.
- Responds appropriately to interruptions, emergencies and various safety and evacuation drills.
- Participates in department meetings and in-service training. Offers ideas for improved services and operations.
- Promotes teamwork. Freely moves when requested by school management into different classrooms to meet coverage needs.
- Observes the school policies and procedures. Maintains the school standards for student behavior management, child abuse and neglect, infection control, safety, emergency procedures, attendance, moral and professional conduct.

Qualification for the Position:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 30 college credits or a substitute teacher certification, preferred.
- Passion for working with students with special needs and a commitment to inclusivity.
- Prior experience working with children, preferably in a learning environment.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Approved Criminal History Review from NJ Dept. of Ed. Office of Criminal History Review.
- Ability to lift and position students alone and with another person as required.
- Lifting is performed from various levels and weight can vary up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships.
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of school environment.
General Definition and Conditions of Work:
Duties performed typically in school settings. Performs instructional paraprofessional work assisting a classroom teacher or designated supervisor in maintaining an environment favorable to student learning and personal growth. Occasional movement of students in wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds. Work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
