General Manager Job Description:
We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to oversee and manage all strategic operations for our resort located on the west side of Chicago (West Loop/Fulton Market) . As General Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of all aspects of the business, including daycare, boarding, grooming, and managing a team of both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a strategic vision for the resort, aligning with the company's goals and objectives.
- Operations Management: Oversee all day-to-day operations of the store, ensuring efficient and effective functioning.
- Staff Management: Lead and manage a diverse team of 35 associates, including both front-of-the-house (customer service, sales) and back-of-the-house (groomers, caretakers) staff.
- Customer Experience: Create and maintain a welcoming and positive environment for customers, ensuring excellent customer service standards are upheld.
- Sales and Revenue Growth: Drive sales growth strategies, implement marketing initiatives, and actively seek opportunities to increase revenue for the store.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, conduct regular audits, and ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained to meet customer demands.
- Financial Performance: Monitor and analyze financial reports, budgets, and KPIs to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements, including health and safety guidelines, animal welfare standards, and employment laws.
- Team Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning and development among the team, providing guidance, coaching, and feedback to enhance overall performance.
- Vendor and Supplier Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiating contracts and securing favorable terms.
Requirements:
- Proven Leadership: Minimum 5 years of experience in a managerial role, preferably in the retail or pet industry, demonstrating strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop and execute a strategic vision for the business, driving growth and achieving targets.
- Problem Solver: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues effectively and efficiently.
- Customer-Focused: Deep understanding of customer needs and ability to deliver exceptional customer service experiences.
- Financial Acumen: Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and analyzing financial reports.
- Team Management: Experience managing a diverse team, fostering a positive work culture, and driving employee engagement.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the retail pet industry, including trends, products, and services.
- Compliance and Safety: Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements related to pet care, safety, and employment laws.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, staff, and stakeholders.
- Passion for Pets: Genuine love and passion for animals and commitment to their welfare.
