BlackRock’s Fixed Income team manages more than $1 trillion in global fixed income assets across index, active long-only, alternative, and liability driven strategies. The platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest arrays of investment choices across model-based and fundamental investment styles.
The High Yield Credit Trading Team is seeking a Junior Credit Trader for its investment activities in San Francisco. The candidate will be responsible for supporting and eventually trading both cash and derivative credit products in High Yield. They will report directly to the San Francisco Head of Credit Trading. The candidate will work directly with all members of the broader BlackRock Credit Trading team to refine existing and develop new trading processes to help increase efficiency and unlock smarter pathways to additional liquidity.
The candidate will interact with the full range of internal PM teams and broader BlackRock partners to better understand the developing electronic possibilities for delivering innovative solutions from the trading function. This will include interaction with Aladdin developers and strategic engagement with our 3rd party vendors, including those from the rapidly-changing e-trading marketplace. Initially, this will be a junior role, but with a clear path to becoming a fully functioning member of the local trading team with their own sector responsibilities. Successful management of the sectors will involve trading one of the largest credit books in the world and influencing the investment direction of the Model Based, Global Fixed Income, Index and iShares® Fixed Income platforms.
Responsibilities
- Learn the fundamentals of credit trading – cash and derivatives
- Directly support the credit trading platform for HY Cash, CDS and Loans across the entire firm
- Efficient execution of trading strategies for active long only, ETF, hedge fund and index trading strategies for North America and International PM teams
- Be aware of general market sentiment as well as develop independent views that are anticipatory of the market
- Lead discussions and communicate market technicals to the global investment platform of BlackRock
- Actively contribute to the development of platform infrastructure and analytics to improve trading efficiency and operational risk reduction (e.g. electronic platforms, new protocols, straight thru processing, basket trading)
- Refine & create new reporting formats that drive informational advantages in the trading space
- Participate in Aladdin development for innovative trading solutions
- Embrace the BlackRock Principles
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of fixed income experience preferred
- Creative problem-solving ability
- Experience in python, VBA, Bloomberg API, and excel preferred
- Must be adaptable and comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment
- Strong intellectual capacity and analytical mentality
- Genuine interest in investments and asset management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly motivated; self-starter
For California only the salary range for this position is $115,000 – $147,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
