Description
A Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for keeping the operating room clean, cleaning the instruments before sterilization, and keeping the supply room stocked with supplies. Medical personnel rely on scrub techs to identify the patient, prepare the surgical field, move the patient to and from the procedure room, and keep records during the procedure. Assist in procedures under the supervision of Radiologists, registered nurses, or other personnel. May help set up procedure room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to radiologists and assistants, hold instruments, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
· Knows and follows aseptic technique when performing scrub duties and support duties for the department.
· Performs scrub duties as assigned in service areas.
· Assists in carrying out the patient's plan of care by performing assigned tasks within scope of practice of the surgical technologists and according to the unit guidelines of care, facility policies and procedures, nursing policies and procedures, and legal limitations.
· Transports and escorts patients to various areas of the facility for discharge.
· Assists with the maintenance, selection and preparation of instruments, equipment and supplies necessary to maintain a state of readiness for operative cases.
· Fosters positive relations within the team and with patients and families.
· Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
· Function as a scrub person during procedures.
· Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
· Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the procedure room and room preparation for subsequent patients.
· Sterilization of surgical equipment
· Strict adherence to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and OSHA regulations/procedures
· Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certification: BLS Certification (Required), High school or equivalent (Required), Graduation from a Surgical Technology program (required). Proof of Certification Required
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of working experience as a surgical technologist is preferred.
Knowledge: Consistently model AIDET principles, service excellence and service recovery. Consistently demonstrate commitment to safe practices while abiding by all OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
Skills: Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word and email, and the ability to comprehend and utilize electronic medical record systems and PACS systems. Use of medical equipment, testing and measuring devices and office equipment. Ability to interact with patients in a fast-paced environment; Strong verbal and organizational skills; excellent customer service. Willingness to learn and perform screening and diagnostic exams.
Physical requirements: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Must be able to stand, stoop, lift and walk without restrictions. Requires the physical ability to stand and walk throughout the day and help lift and move patients.
Conditions of employment: BLS Certification, compliance with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. Adherence to the Mission, Vision, and Values of DRI and professional representation of DRI.
