A Practice Manager, or Healthcare Office Manager, is responsible for overseeing all of the administrative and business operations aspects of a private medical or wellness practice. Their duties include hiring employees, ensuring compliance with regulations and managing the budget of the practice.
Their duties and responsibilities often include:
- Establish and implement effective workplace procedures
- Ensure policies and best practices are up to industry standards and government regulations
- Hire, train and monitor stuff
- Organize patient records using electronic health records keeping
- Supervise daily practice operations such as billing, debt collections, security and occupational health and safety
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with Physicians, other medical professionals, office personnel employees and patients
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Computer literacy and knowledge of relevant health care and administrative software
- Good leadership, motivation, training and goal-setting skills
- Financial and accounting skills
- In-depth knowledge of health care finance best practices and standards
- Organization and time management skills
- Understanding of health and safety standards in the medical industry
Collaborate with Physicians to develop business strategies and patient services
Interact with patients and address their complaints
** Completed Clinical practice manager's program or equivilant or be certifed
A Practice Manager can work with a variety of patient care practitioners. They control the practice’s daily operations by supervising administrative employees, managing employee and patient schedules, ordering inventory, scheduling equipment maintenance and implementing business strategies. Practice Managers in medical practices make sure that their office upholds privacy laws and other medical regulations.
Practice Managers help set prices and choose vendors based on their estimated costs of running the practice. They are in charge of human resources responsibilities like setting company policies, determining benefits and negotiating raises. They develop strategies for making business practices more efficient, improving the patient’s experience and earning more profits through operating the practice.
