Position Available
OnPoint is looking for an Economist for immediate hire. We are looking for an individual to design and implement complex economic and econometric analysis, to oversee and mentor our outstanding junior staff, and to manage case schedules. The right candidate will be able to take the large datasets we work with, transform them into the foundation for our damage analyses, and conduct complex data and econometric modeling analysis. They will also be the client contact for cases and will manage the scope and objectives from initial discovery through report filing, deposition, and trial testimony. This individual must be able to work under tight deadlines, must be highly rigorous and well organized.
Annual base salary range is $150,000 to $200,000 depending on experience and professional credentials (the higher salary being available to those with prior, relevant consulting experience), and there is significant bonus potential. Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Identifying key economic and factual issues
- Analyzing market characteristics and industry dynamics
- Reviewing relevant academic literature
- Developing relevant analytical frameworks
- Designing and building econometric and/or financial models
- Processing large, proprietary datasets for analysis
- Preparing memos, expert reports, trial exhibits, and other presentation materials
- Managing analysts and junior staff, providing oversight, quality assurance, and constructive feedback
- Managing client relationships
- Preparing expert witnesses for deposition and trial
- Generating collaborative teams to maximize individual contribution
- Coaching analysts and junior staff
- Business and professional development, including industry and/or academic publications and participation at conferences
Qualifications
To be considered, candidates must have a Ph.D. in economics, with a strong emphasis in industrial organization, finance, and econometrics. Extensive experience using STATA or SAS is required. Several years of experience in economic consulting is a significant advantage.
The position is highly intellectual and analytical. Candidates should possess:
- High degree of familiarity with the economics literature, particularly industrial organization, competition, economics of innovation, contract theory, econometrics, and financial economics
- Extremely high level of competence in econometrics, math, and statistics
- Advanced knowledge of Stata and/or SAS; other packages, such as R, are also helpful
- Advanced coding ability and experience working with large datasets
- Familiarity with the litigation process (from complaint, through expert discovery, to trial) is a significant advantage, as is awareness of issues for economic analysis in antitrust, intellectual property, and contract cases
In addition, candidates must be able to think analytically and critically. This position requires intellectual curiosity, but it also requires efficiency. Our Economists must exercise extreme attention to detail in developing answers to difficult questions using sometimes limited information. Candidates must also be detailed orientated with excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to develop and manage a schedule and to maximize contributions from other team members is essential from the outset. We frequently work under tight deadlines, so commitment, a high energy level, and a good sense of humor are important attributes.
