In furtherance of the mission of the College for Officer Training, the library team supports Salvationist scholarship and the development of men and women for Salvation Army ministry through the provision of excellence in library services. The library aims to meet professional standards for an academic library as set by ACL, ACRL, and the relevant accreditation body.
Management:
- Work 35-40 hours a week during the school year, Mondays through Fridays. During the school year, this may require occasional library coverage on Saturdays.
- Open and close the library at designated times.
- Maintain the library as a clean, welcoming space for quiet study and reflection.
- Monitor facilities, including housekeeping, communicating with maintenance and facilities departments as necessary.
- Monitor office equipment such as printers, scanners, and copiers and maintain paper and toner.
- Order and maintain supplies for the office, coffee station, and first aid.
- Control cash box and deposit fine and book sale money.
- Work with student (cadet) library assistants and volunteers under the direction of the Librarian.
- Maintain the Circulation desk.
- Maintain the Library Operations Manual for his/her area of responsibility.
- Maintain professional development.
User Services:
- Maintain the Circulation Desk.
- Provide services to users, including circulation and reference, both in person and online.
- Create and maintain in the library system: user accounts, item types, circulation dates, etc.
- Produce overdue and fine reports each month.
- Check in materials as part of shift opening and closing.
- Manage book and bulletin board displays.
- Manage re-shelving materials.
- Manage shelf-reading of book and periodical sections. Manage physical appearance and order of book stacks, periodical shelves, and periodicals in archives.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of training program and curriculum, with special emphasis on SA Doctrine, SA History, Biblical interpretation, and Homiletics, to provide appropriate reference.
- Maintain curriculum files.
- Enhance quarterly deadlines list with assignment descriptions.
- Update Guides document in the User Services Manual each quarter.
- Maintain course reserves, including e-reserves.
- Maintain conference room booking sheet.
- Participate in library orientation for cadets.
Technical Services:
- Prepare quarterly statistical reports.
- Manage orders of SA publications for distribution.
- Submit claims for missing issues of periodicals.
- Manage check-in and processing of periodicals.
- Handle distribution of periodicals.
- Manage physical processing of new books.
- Manage comparison of syllabi and catalogs to the collection.
- Manage preservation and repair of materials.
- Participate in inventory and shelf-shifting during the summer.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Library Liaison Officer or designate.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must work toward a library assistant certificate.
- Must be committed to working within the context of the mission of the library and the College for Officer Training.
- Must be reliable and detail-oriented.
- Work independently and collaboratively.
- An excellent communicator with a positive attitude toward all people and a commitment to professional development.
- Excellent computer skills are required.
- Web experience is preferred.
- Ability to learn and represent The Salvation Army's denominational distinctive to assist students, regardless of his/her faith perspective, is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
