Job Description:
J&A is seeking a talented and creative Urban Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting various urban planning and development projects, with a strong emphasis on rendering, design, and RFP preparation.
General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture departments to develop innovative and visually stunning designs.
- Utilize design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, SketchUp) to create high-quality renderings, visualizations, and presentations that effectively communicate design concepts.
- Assist in the introduction to project management tasks, including project coordination, scheduling, and budgeting, under the guidance of senior staff members.
- Conduct site visits and field surveys to gather information, assess site conditions, and identify opportunities and constraints for design projects.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including planners, architects, engineers, and environmental specialists, to integrate various disciplines into urban design initiatives.
- Provide support in preparing design reports, graphics, and other deliverables for project presentations, public meetings, and client engagements.
- Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in urban design and landscape architecture, and apply this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of sustainable and resilient design solutions that address environmental, social, and economic challenges in urban environments.
- This role will support the planning department’s long range plan efforts and initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a related field.
- Proficiency in design software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and SketchUp.
- Strong design sensibility and ability to create compelling visual representations of design concepts.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting project deadlines.
- Demonstrated passion for urban design, landscape architecture, and creating vibrant, sustainable communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in preparing and formatting Request for Proposals (RFPs) for design services.
- Familiarity with project management principles and tools..
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and site analysis techniques.
- 3+ years experience in a related position.
