Overview:
The Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for keeping the facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. The Maintenance Mechanic II will be required to perform a wide range of Preventative Maintenance tasks around the facility, including the repair of abnormal machine breakdowns. This position supports plant operations by effectively maintaining and repairing various plant equipment. This is accomplished by working safely as an individual or in a team setting, focusing on equipment uptime and availability in support of production requirements.
Duties:
- Performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment as required by the PM schedule, including lubrication and cleaning.
- Responds to machinery breakdowns in a manner to minimize downtime and performs minor repairs on plant equipment. Repairs or replaces defective parts using hand and power tools, as required.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance
- Assists the other mechanics, as required, with major repairs. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Works with outside contractors, as required, to accomplish maintenance and project needs, especially regarding building equipment and plant utilities.
- Establishes and updates needs and methods for preventive maintenance on all equipment.
- Maintains adequate inventories of required spare parts, requesting replacement parts as needed.
- Operates snow removal and salt-spreading equipment and participates in other activities for safety of building access and grounds.
- Maintains compliance with all GMP, 5S SOP’s and Safety polices
- Participates in TQM Improvement Activities
- Completes and documents all Work Orders in a timely manner
- Uses Maintenance Software (BEAM) to enter new work orders and to record completed work orders
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
- Works in a safe, courteous, and effective manner always.
- Aides in the changeover of various production equipment
- Maintains technical knowledge (continued education, technical publications, personal network)
- Assist in the training of operators on various maintenance activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5-7 years’ mechanical and electrical knowledge
- Mechanical skills to diagnose problems, install, maintain, repair and overhaul equipment to meet plant needs
- Experience working with maintenance of various plant equipment including conveyors, drives, belts, pneumatic, and electric controls, compressed air systems, and other similar equipment.
- Ability to move around the plant and to stand for up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders to reach machinery and building systems
- Sufficient dexterity to use hand tools and power tools.
- Mechanics are required to provide their own basic tools to perform routine maintenance and repairs of equipment
- Ability to work outdoors as required.
- Communication skills to diagnose problems and maintain working relationships with machine operators

Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates degree in mechanical, electrical or engineering specialties
- Mechanical and electrical knowledge, preferably in a production or manufacturing environment. 8+ years strongly preferred.
- Skilled in multiple crafts with sufficient skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC to routine building maintenance
- Experience with computers and data entry to operate preventive maintenance software.
