GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Primary Therapist must be capable of performing independent work in the primary care and treatment of individuals diagnosed with a substance use and/or co-occurring disorder(s). The therapist is primarily responsible for the completion of an initial assessment with a biopsychosocial instrument, an interpretive summary, and documentation and execution of a collaborated treatment plan; individual, group, and family counseling. The Primary Therapist will be responsible for providing quality care, including representing the core values of the agency. Therapist will follow all ethical and moral guidelines, and maintain documentation as necessary, including effective aftercare/discharge planning, referrals (if necessary) and consulting with outside professionals.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
1. Stay abreast of evidence based practices and new advances in the field through continuing education and networking with discipline specific sites.
2. Effectively provide individual, group and family counseling sessions.
3. Utilize motivational skills in eliciting information from clients to complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment culminating in an interpretive summary.
4. Apply the criteria of ASAM PPC-2 and the DSM-V to ensure placement in the accurate level of care and the appropriate diagnosis.
5. Accurately maintain client’s charts including but not limited to timely submission of concurrent reviews.
6. Prepare integrated treatment plans for clients with co-occurring disorders.
7. Conduct crisis interventions and appropriate referrals for clients
8. Contribute helpful and clinically-driven information in the Multi-disciplinary meeting.
9. Ensure credentials are up to date and in good standing.
10. Adhere to ethical standards of license/discipline.
11. Ensure new clients are oriented to the treatment facility and process.
12. Practice specific competencies of addictions treatment, ie: screening, assessment, counseling, referral and record keeping.
13. Demonstrate the ability to effectively establish rapport with clinical population.
14. Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to provide care to a culturally diverse population.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Advanced knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at Armada Recovery
2. Advanced knowledge of the biopsychosocial characteristics and manifestations of chemical dependency and/or mental illness.
3. Advanced knowledge of individual and group behaviors and the effective ways of working with people to produce on-going recovery.
4. Advanced ability to work effectively with people and aid them in adjusting to their specific problems.
5. Advanced ability to identify the needs of clients and to gain their confidence and cooperation in assisting them to obtain their goals.
6. Advanced ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other members of staff, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public.
7. Ability to successfully work with others from various cultures and backgrounds, as evident by demonstrating the ability to work with diverse groups. (Cultural Competency)
8. Significant knowledge of facility and/or levels of care offered (PHP, IOP, OP) and the process of moving from one level to another.
9. Significant knowledge and experiences in running groups, seminars, meetings and/or specialized therapeutic groups and activities.
10. Basic knowledge of supervisory and training techniques and a demonstrated ability to carry out such responsibilities.
