Advanced Structural Technologies (AST) is an industry leading manufacturer of forged, spun and machined products for the automotive, defense and space markets. As a fully integrated contract manufacturing business, all process steps are completed on site in AST’s 100,000 sq. ft. facility.
AST currently has immediate openings for all levels of CNC Machinists and Operators for all Shifts. This includes machinists, operators, programmers, lead personnel and supervisors. We offer competitive pay with rates depending on experience and shift.
Production parts are comprised of both wheel and wheel components along with various defense and space related parts. Materials include aluminum, copper, steel, titanium and other alloys.
The CNC machining department is comprised of approximately 45 CNC Lathes and Mills and is comprised primarily of Okuma’s, HAAS, and Mori Seiki’s.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Depends on position):
- Selects cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics, or written specifications.
- Positions, secures and aligns cutting tools in tool holders on machine, using hand tools, and verifies their position with measuring instruments.
- Operate machinery to include setting controls for cutting speeds and depths, and feed rates and to position tools in relation to workplace
- Run machine through the cycle, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearance and tolerances.
- Observes operation and stops machine to inspect finished parts and verify conformance with specifications of first run, using measuring instruments
KNOWLEDGE /SKILLS:
- Ability to set-up and operate CNC machines with Okuma, HAAS, and Fanuc controls.
- Able to write and edit CNC programs and to correct or improve job performance.
- Able to understand complex mechanical drawings and tolerances.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobs.
· Ability to institute process and procedural improvements in a machine shop environment.
· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment including running machines similar to those described.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
- This individual must be a self-motivated, focused and an organized team player.
