Cost Control Engineer, LaPorte, TX
Primary Function:
The primary function of the Cost Engineer is to track and forecast costs associated with labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors. The Cost Engineer also produces and analyzes reports for the Project Manager and other project supervisors as appropriate.
This position requires knowledge in the areas of accounting, payroll, purchasing, cost control, human resources policies and procedures, and project closeout procedures. The Cost Engineer will be required to work closely with clients and Project Managers on billing and cost-reporting requirements to ensure the client’s and project needs are met. The Cost Engineer will be required to deal directly with clients. They promote STARCON in a positive manner, developing a partnering relationship with the client to reduce the client’s costs, and improve safety and reliability.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The roles and responsibilities of a Cost Engineer may include, but are not limited to, the following items:
- Setup the STARCON cost control system budget information provided in the contract.
- Setup the STARCON cost reporting system with cost codes and specialty reports to provide STARCON Management with cost forecasting and trending information.
- Maintain Purchase Orders and monitor commitment reports.
- Produce daily and weekly cost reports for STARCON Management and clients to track the costs of the projects and change orders.
- Provide all-inclusive job-to-date cost reports (both STARCON cost and client billing) that include labor, equipment, purchase orders and any other charges.
- Perform data entry.
- Ensure cost control and accounting policies and procedures are being adhered to.
- Produce client invoices and invoice controls.
- Understand and interpret contract and subcontract documentation related to cost control
- Archive project files regarding payroll, invoicing, cost controls, purchase orders, contracts, subcontracts and other project closeout documentation as required.
- Monitor payables and receivables.
- Forecast costs and revenue through project completion.
Qualification Guidelines:
Experience:
- Minimum of two years previous experience in cost control or related position – preferably in the construction industry.
- Working knowledge of STARCON (CMIC)/client (SAP,TRACK) software preferred.
Education/Certifications:
- Must have a four year college degree or adequate experience with Cost Control
Physical:
- Must comply with STARCON’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Must be clean-shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
- This position requires extended periods of sitting behind a desk, performing tasks on computer.
- Periods of walking and standing with some light lifting of boxes or office equipment.
