Mandatory position requirements
- Passing a pre-employment drug test and background check

- This is an onsite role to Sims Metal at 2500 S. Paulina St., Chicago, IL 60608
- Occasional travel to other locations in Chicago is also required.
- Must be bilingual (English/Spanish speaking)
Responsibilities
- Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; training and development; employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews.
- Coaches, counsels and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
- Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department for the client group. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems
- Coordinates all human resources training programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops and presentations for legal, compliance and company policy.
- In conjunction with NAM Talent Acquisition, conducts onboarding activities for all exempt, nonexempt and temporary workers.
- Establishes and maintains department records and reports. Participates in administrative staff meetings. Maintains organizational charts and employee directory.
- In conjunction with NAM Labor Relations, represents management in investigations, answering and settlement of grievances through grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the management team.
- Active participation in contract negotiations in support of the NAM Director of Labor Relations.
- Maintains working relationship with union officials and adheres to terms of labor contract by monitoring day-to-day implementation of policies concerning work conditions.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned including exposure/support to other regions from time-to-time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in Human Resources
- Prior HR-related Union experience is preferred
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communications skills
- Attention to detail and good judgment
- Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred
