The Communications Specialist supports parish ministries by ensuring that important, engaging, and relevant events in the life of Saint David’s are communicated through multiple channels both internally and externally. Through both front-end development of our web site, email campaigns, and social media, this role contributes to the church’s overall mission to make Christ known and lives are transformed. This part-time, in-person, remote, or hybrid position reports directly to the Rector and is budgeted for 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible.
Communications
· Attend weekly staff meetings and recurring Communication Committee meetings.
· Send weekly ‘Happenings’ email newsletter (using Constant Contact software)
· Prepare printed Announcements for each week (using Canva)
· Develop and oversee a communication plan and sustainable social media strategy aligned to the church calendar (using Meta Business Suite, Google Calendar, etc.)
· Create engaging, effective, and audience-appropriate communications for internal and external audiences.
· Bridge the online to offline gap between email, phone, social media, and website notifications.
· Consistently update and monitor church’s website and social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
· Keep church members informed of official business, including services, meetings, and initiatives.
· Monitor Episcopal communication groups to recommend programs and improvements.
· Work with Rector, Worship Committee, and Music Director to create worship bulletins for each service.
· Prepare PowerPoint slides for each service.
· Work with Parish Administrator and Property Manager to ensure consistency across Google calendars, physical calendars, social media accounts, website, and Realm.
· Organize and delegate tasks to Communications committee. Schedule and run committee meetings.
Social Media
· Keep social media accounts active and up to date (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
· Develop and coordinate a social media plan to promote church ministries and events.
· Develop methods to engage with current social media followers and expand our reach to new people.
· Create campaigns to attract more people to services and events.
Website
· Ensure that website design is clear, functional, and appealing to all users and that all necessary information is accessible.
· Expand features on the website to ensure useful functionality and maintain relevancy.
· Ensure all links, calendars, graphics, and other multimedia are accessible and up to date.
· Coordinate with staff and ministry leaders to keep information fresh, relevant, and interesting.
· Work with GRS Technologies (IT Service) to maintain website security and functionality.
· Update website weekly with service bulletins, announcements sheet, and list of music for each service.
Work Experience
· Proven ability to manage communications across multiple distribution channels.
· Willingness to research and learn about trends in church communications and social media.
· Develop a sense of teamwork and foster collaboration among church ministries.
· Maintain a professional presence characterized by high levels of encouragement and trust.
· Regularly share information with and solicit feedback from staff and volunteers.
· Patiently partner with volunteers of all ages.
· Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
· Adheres to commitments, schedules, and deadlines.
· Familiarity with MailChimp required.
