PreK/Kindergarten Assistant Teacher
Description of Duties:
● Assist in supervision of 20 students in PreK/Kindergarten under the direction of the lead
teacher.
● Engage in active supervision of children, with focused attention and observation of them
at all times.
● Work with individuals and small groups on projects and on independent work.
● Support students in following routines for independent work and classroom functioning
as facilitated by the lead teacher, including arrival, snack, cleanup, self-care needs, and
bathroom.
● Support students in inquiry based, project-based, creative problem solving, and
hands-on learning.
● Share information with the lead teacher regarding student progress on learning
objectives.
● Teach in accordance with CFS philosophy to promote independence, self-motivation,
critical thinking, social justice, equity, student voice, student-led conflict resolution,
empathy, and creativity.
● Assist with setup for learning projects, arts and crafts projects, etc.
● Help supervise playground time even in cold weather (above 15 degree temperatures).
● Supervise daily rest time for PreK students.
● Chaperone frequent field trips/walks.
● Assist with daily classroom cleanup including bathroom, sweeping, vacuuming, returning
materials to their correct places, and other tasks.
Requirements:
● Successful completion of a fingerprint background check.
● Experience working with children ages 3 to 5 in a group setting.
Hours:
Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm M-Th, 8:00am to 3:30pm Friday. Weekly staff meetings 3:45-4:45
pm. Weekly 1-hour planning meeting with lead teacher.
Pay and Benefits:
Pay: $21/hour
Benefits: Paid vacation and sick time in accordance with City of Chicago rules, short- and
