Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Nursing to join our team. As the Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for overseeing the nursing department and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care in our nursing home and assisted living facility. This is a leadership role that requires strong management skills and a deep understanding of nursing administration.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Leadership:
- Provide clinical oversight to nursing staff, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Monitor resident health status, assess needs, and develop care plans.
- Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursing staff.
- Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, professional growth, and job satisfaction.
- Address performance issues promptly and fairly.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including those related to nursing practice, safety, and infection control.
- Conduct regular audits and quality assessments.
- Implement corrective actions as needed.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Manage nursing department budgets, staffing levels, and supplies. Work with the scheduling staff on open shifts and review the schedule.
- Optimize resource allocation to maintain high-quality care while controlling costs.
- Education and Training:
- Provide ongoing education and training to nursing staff.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and innovations.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Work closely with other department heads (e.g., social services, dietary, activities) to enhance resident well-being.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and committees.
- Family and Resident Relations:
- Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
- Address concerns and ensure open communication.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License: Must hold an active RN license in the state of Iowa.
- Experience: Significant experience in nursing leadership, preferably in long-term care.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of nursing practices, regulations, and quality improvement.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
