SCE FCU is looking for a skilled Sr Accountant to join our team!
Prepares monthly general ledger entries, account reconciliations and various other accounting reports to aid in the completion of financial reporting in an accurate and timely manner. The incumbent in this position performs duties of a complex nature requiring advanced knowledge and competency in accounting principles and practices. Assists management with ensuring overall accuracy and integrity of financial data and is responsible for the more advanced general ledgers and critical accounting responsibilities. Assist Accountants with day‐to‐day questions/requests and with other needs in the absence of the manager. May assist with external audit and examinations and regulatory lings. Assists with special projects assigned by management. Performs functions of lower‐level staff and some functions of the VP, Finance, when necessary, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting and Investments
- Maintains investment system including preparation of monthly reconciliations and entries and monthly and quarterly roll forwards. Maintains complete documentation for each investment.
- Posts investment transactions and other FHLB account transactions (investment paydowns & FHLB charges) and issues advice for cash drawdowns from /to FHLB to/from FRB.
- Performs analyses and assists in recommendations on a variety of treasury activities including, but not limited to, internal investment activity, external investments, cash management, and investor relations.
- Prepares financial projections and evaluations, including peer analysis and reporting and reports findings to ALCO.
- Assists in pro‐actively managing credit analysis review activities to ensure that high quality investments are maintained in accordance with Credit Union policy and legal requirements. Creates and maintains balance sheet, income statement, yield variance analysis, and other various reports.
Regulatory Reporting and Analysis
- Accurately and timely prepares and files year‐end member and vendor tax forms and reports.
- Completes periodic regulatory and tax reporting as assigned including but not limited to the following: quarterly NCUA Call Report, annual financial audit, annual NCUA examination, weekly Local Agency Deposit Reports, 945 IRS Back‐Up withholding tax payments and quarterly filing, annual 1099 filing, property tax audits, and CUSO audits.
- Major contributor for the development of the annual financial planning/budget process and periodic management of regulatory reports. Specifically responsible for ensuring the projection of all non‐interest income and noninterest expenses are incorporated in the annual financial plan.
Daily Postings & Responsibilities
- Performs various accounting transactions in support of the day‐to‐day operations of the accounting department.
- Accurately verifies and posts general ledger entries such as daily wire transactions, share branch transactions, ATM deposits and withdrawals, cash outages and adjustments, fundings and payoffs of offline loans (participations and CUSO loans), etc.
- Ensures the timely completion of daily accounting tasks.
- Applies a working knowledge of GAAP and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Provides a high level of service and support to other credit union team members by assisting with research, error correction, inquiries, and questions.
- Recommends new or changes in existing procedures that would increase efficiency within the accounting department and ensures compliance with various regulatory reporting.
- Document policies, procedures, and workflows for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Complies with all Credit Union policies and procedures including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations.
General Ledger Reconciliation
- Reconciles complex GL reconciliations as assigned including but not limited to the following: ATM cash and related Clearing Accounts, checks undeposited (all sources from branches, mobile, ATMs), ACH clearing accounts, various bank accounts (FRB, FHLB, etc.), debit card and share drafts exceptions, Zelle clearing accounts, loan and share accounts, and various other assets and liabilities.
- Provides month and quarter end reports for financial reporting as assigned.
- Completes month‐end closing procedures including but not limited to the following: various Income and expense accruals, Offline loan month‐end remittance postings, ALLL analysis, CUSO financial statement preparation and posting of consolidation entries.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform supervisory functions such as review of daily general ledger transactions, daily FRB reconciliations, reviews of expense reports and checks issued against supporting documentations.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of professional accounting experience, preferably within the finance industry.
- Advanced training in general accounting practices and principles is highly desirable.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an advanced knowledge of accounting software: Excel and Word processing software.
