SALARY: $84,571 to $126,857 annually (effective July 1, 2024)

Manages staff and oversees the daily operations of the City's Detention Center, Security and the City's Police Fleet Operations. Reporting to the Police Technical Services Administrator, the Detention, Security and Fleet Services Manager is a key member of the Department's Leadership Team. The Glendale Police Department is seeking an individual with a broad base of experience to lead the Department in these areas who is responsible for managing staff and overseeing the daily operations of the City's Detention Center, Security and Police Fleet Operations. The Detention, Security and Fleet Services Manager is considered to be at a rank comparable to Police Lieutenant.

The Glendale Police Department employs 444 sworn officers and 161 civilian employees. The Department is organized into three functional bureaus: the Operations Bureau, the Investigative and Administrative Services Bureau, and the Support Services Bureau. Under these bureaus are six divisions: Administrative Services, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Support Services, Gateway Patrol and Foothills Patrol.

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, police administration, public administration, business administration, or a related field plus four years of progressively responsible public safety administrative experience including one year of supervisory experience. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of:
Federal and State laws and regulations governing custody of information, privacy and security
Federal and State Emission Standards
Police department policies, procedures, and practices
Computerized criminal justice information systems
PC software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Ability to:
Plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of supervisory staff and subordinates
Direct and conduct research, analyze and interpret report findings and recommendations
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Develop and administer a section budget
Resolve problems and complaints from citizens
Establish effective working relationships with all levels of police personnel, City officials, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public
Special Requirements
Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
