POSITION SUMMARY: Perform a variety of legal assistant related duties such as scheduling, preparing legal documents and correspondence, docketing cases and maintaining dockets and calendars, and providing information to others. This individual will be responsible for ensuring deadlines are met, supporting the attorneys in their caseload, and assisting in billing, court runs, and various other legal duties to ensure the success for our client's cases.
GENERAL PURPOSE: Provides full range of legal and administrative assistance to multiple attorneys specializing in Elder Law litigation.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Generate legal documents and correspondence.
- Complete court preparation and follow up.
- Daily application of understanding and knowledge of probate and litigation processes.
- Knows all parties to assigned cases and keeps up with the status on each.
- Prepares and assembles materials, documents, and exhibits for meetings, court appearances and hearings.
- Electronically docket cases, process information, record notices, create correspondence, reports, or other data.
- Proofreads and corrects prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, and content.
- Answers telephone as back up to receptionist, takes information and forwards to appropriate party. Takes or relays detailed information from/to callers on behalf of assigned attorneys and develops rapport with clients.
- Inputs, retrieves, updates and maintains information using computerized databases, specifically the Smokeball case management database.
- Works cooperatively with other paralegals in order to work be flexible and helpful to one another.
- Performs related work as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a law firm, in any capacity, and will have strong communication skills. Candidate must possess a high level of organization, oral and written communication, problem-solving skills, ability to work with a team, adaptability, ability to take initiative and use own judgment, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, dependability and confidentiality. Salary is commensurate with experience.
