We are a small children’s publishing press seeking an energetic and highly creative editor and marketing coordinator to join our team. A passion for the publishing industry is a must. This individual will also need to be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and design-focused programs, meeting the standards of the high-quality children’s books we are known for producing.
This person thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys tackling complex puzzles, is a clear and effective communicator, derives energy from the process of creative brainstorming, collaborates well with all types of people, and can confidently own their list from development through production. This is a position that best suits personalities who genuinely enjoy thinking outside the box, though you will also need to stay organized to succeed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Editorial
- Read and evaluate manuscript submissions with an eye for titles that fit our catalog
- Work with authors on content, style, and format and provide them with editorial feedback
- Follow new titles through the entire production process; oversee schedules for revisions, illustrations, design, and production
- Collaborate with the editorial team on in-house book development
- Write catalog/cover copy; develop marketing plans for new titles; copy edit all manuscripts with attention to grammar and style choices
- Manage deadlines for our distributor
- Graphic Design/Website Design
- Provide/Create/Brainstorm concepts for art direction, both for book covers and interior illustrations
- Develop relationships with authors, illustrators, and agents to meet deadlines for titles and provide feedback on illustrations
- Keep track of production deadlines to keep new titles on schedule
- Design layout of new titles, catalogs, sell sheets, and other materials
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud required
- Update and create new website pages as needed for new title promotion or sales
- Marketing
- Responsible for newsletter emails, developing and sending email outreach for upcoming and new releases, holidays, events, and important sales
- Plan social media content; build relationships with key influencers
- Oversee social media associate; develop schedule for posting, assign content, and provide feedback
- Create and run Facebook ads and seek out advertising opportunities
- Other
- Assist with events, attend conference, do set up and break down
- Manage international and domestic licensing requests
- Responsible for major holiday sales, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday
- Work with outside partners to publicize and promote new titles
- Oversee interns each semester; assign projects and follow up with feedback and direction
